I’ve made it! Towards the end of 2009, a year of injury, lack of focus and general inconsistency in my running and as a result having completed zero, zip, zilch events over the 12 months I realised how important small goals are to my running and seeing as running brings balance in my world, and to my life.
So my first resolution for 2010 was to aim for 1 running event or group run each month in 2010. What better way to kick it off than with a run so this morning I ran the Adelaide, Australia “Resolution Run“, a 9km run around the beautiful (for running) Torrens river.

The Torrens running track
Whenever I run an event I finish it feeling pumped and wondering why I haven’t done this in so long.
My running over the last couple of months has been going well. I’ve built up my distances to about 11k gradually and while I’ve been slower than in the past, my comfort level, heart rate and progress has been pleasing. My motivation and focus have been on the improve and the Resolution run showed me that it’s all been worth it.
There were a few hundred people running and while the course if fairly flat and I’ve run it before, after quite a long time between events I struggled to find my comfortable pace, avoiding the trap of running other people’s pace and while at about the 3k mark I thought I may have gone out too hard I was able to maintain the pace. I passed the half way mark at just over 21 minutes and was happy with it (I’d be happy to finish in under 45 minutes). I kept on and with a little push at the end completed the 2nd half faster than the first with a final time of 40:23 (4:29/km) which I was elated with. It’s not my fastest time but it’s far better than I thought I could do today.
The Resolution run was Number 1 for the year and it’s given me the focus and motivation to keep on training and preparing for many more events and successes in 2010.
