Training log: 2/27/10

Distance: 5 miles!! |Time: 65 minutes | Speed 4.6 mph | Pace: 13:01 min/mile

Of course, I got up at 6:00am this morning, and it was POURING rain. And I stood there for awhile debating whether or not I could go run in the rain and not make myself sick, and then I went back to bed.

Instead, I went to 24 Hour Fitness this afternoon to knock out the 5 miles on the treadmill. Which reminded me all over again how much I dislike the gym. Maybe it’s just this one gym, since the equipment is all in a basement and it’s horribly muggy and a little stinky down there. Nonetheless, I ran 5 miles in just over an hour. Interesting note that the stats I’m posting have an average speed since it’s a combo of running/walking. I learned on the treadmill today that a comfortable speed for me is somewhere around 5.2 – 5.4mph when I’m actually jogging. If I had kept up a 5.3mph pace the whole way, I should have completed in 57 minutes.

The treadmill is definitely not my way of choice to do this. You just stare at the numbers willing for them to turn faster. The ipod helped a little, but that hour was pretty grueling. I’m very curious to run the 8K Race for Literacy next weekend (also 5 miles) and see how much my time improves when I’m running with a big group and not slogging through it on a smelly basement gym treadmill!
