Today could have totally been one of those Mondays…you know, the ones that start off like this:

To be honest, I fought this feeling all day, but I made a conscious effort to get out of my funk. I had a lot of work to do so I pushed through that, and this afternoon, I felt good about a client presentation that I gave today. Before I knew it, it was time to head home.
On my way, I decided to give my friend Erin a call. Erin and I met through one of our neighbors in Atlanta, Tina, and we became instant friends. We had a lot in common and just really get along well. We have maintained our friendship despite the physical distance, but as of late, we haven’t talked much out of sheer busy-ness. Erin and her husband, Aaron, have two small children and they recently relocated to Florida so it’s been hectic.

Tonight, when I called, it was honestly as if no time has passed. We picked right back up where we left off and were laughing and having a great time. It was so good to hear her voice and to catch up! I am so grateful for good friends who are there no matter the distance between or the time that has passed. I need to be better about calling my friends up. I tend to get busy and then assume that it wouldn’t be a good time for them to talk, but you never know unless you try, right? ![]()
Rock ‘N’ Roll Half Marathon

This Sunday, I will run my 7th half marathon. I am running the inaugural Rock ‘N’ Roll Half in Dallas. I don’t feel like I’m as well trained as I’d like to be. My travel schedule has been crazy for the first few months of the year and my mileage hasn’t been as high as I’d like. I am still going to shoot for a PR (current PR is 2:03:28). The good news is that I have gotten in good long runs and I have two good runs scheduled this week — track tomorrow and hills on Thursday. I hope that those runs will help build my confidence. I know I can beat my prior time. I just need to push myself.
My running coach, Gerald, found a great pace calculator for running that incorporates a negative split to tell you what paces you should run to hit your goal! I love this tool and will be using it a lot! I plan to map out my plan this week on what paces I want to hit to help me prepare for Sunday. I’m excited about the race and the medals — the ones I’ve seen for the Rock ‘N’ Roll series are really cool!
Question: How do you mentally prepare for a race?
