9.3 // hips don't lie...

Everyone has ways of dealing with disappointment or something going wrong. Some exercise. Some eat ice cream with a shovel. Some talk to a psychatrist.

Today, I got home from the meet, took a hot shower, strapped ice packs to my hips and knees, and laid on my floor reading Anna Karenina and eating bread and watermelon. Bliss, really.

I’m so exhausted. I’m falling asleep as we type this and it’s barely 9 o’clock. Via general concensus, the meet was a bad one. (Guys won, girls lost 28-31, so close!) It was hottish and our home course is pretty hilly. On the second mile about halfway through, my hip and knee (which is totally new) pretty much gave out and I ended up dragging my left leg up the last few hills. Yes, it was just about as fun as it sounds. I didn’t even get to sprint in hard for the finish because I was limping so much… sort of a fast hobble into the chute… First race I ever cried after. But as I said, pretty much everyone else had a bad run too, so it’s ok.

OK, I’m going to brush my teeth and go to bed, then get up at 6:15 to – guess what? – RUN some more. Ah, cross country is a wonderful thing. At least we’re getting donuts.

PS: anyone care to send me either a pair of titanium legs or a ridiculously puffy black (or dk grey) mongolian fur vest? Thanks  :)

PPS: for anyone who’s interested, it’s my hip abductor muscles that are messed up (both hips now, which is super fun)

*DISCLAIMER: that is not me. As if anyone would mistake me for that.
